News from the Memory and Aging Program at Butler Hospital

June, 2024

Summer is the perfect time to get outside and enjoy the nice weather.  From physical activities to outdoor hobbies, and social gatherings - all are great for maintaining your brain health!

Need some ideas on what to do? Here are a few links to help get you started, plus a peek at what a few of our Memory and Aging Program (MAP) team members will be doing to enjoy the summer season.

  1. Enjoy the season's bounty by gathering with friends to make and enjoy some MIND Diet-inspired dishes. Here are a couple of recipes to get you started:
o    Blueberry, Broccoli and Spinach Salad
o    Cod with Kalamata Olive Topping
  2. Enjoy some of Southern New England's best walking trails.
  3. Use your smartphone or other device to stream music that'll get you moving - whether on a walk outside or a dance in your living room. Check out the Memory and Aging Program's "MOVE" playlist on Spotify!
  4. Find a comfy spot in the park and read a book on your smartphone or e-reader for free on the Digital Public Library of America.
o    MAP Project Manager Colin Stein recommends The Wager: A Tale of Shipwreck, Mutiny and Murder by David Grann. Nurse Practitioner Lyndsay Dematteo suggests The Bridgerton Series by Julia Quinn.
  5. Cultivate a garden, big or small, and add some whimsy with one of these great DIY garden art crafts.

saraiva-lorrance"This summer, I'm excited to relax at our family pool and the beach with my three-year-old daughter, as well as spending quality time with my sister and baby nephew in Austin, Texas."

    – Lulu Saraiva, Outreach Coordinator

Tara-Tang"I love the Bridgerton series and will be attending a Bridgerton Ball in Washington, D.C. (complete with dress and the latest copy of Lady Whistledown’s Society Papers). I’m also an avid horse racing fan and will be spending a lot of time in Saratoga Springs, NY for the horse racing season this summer. I’m also looking forward to some fun, relaxing time with my family on the weekends."
