This study will test new digital methods to assess subtle memory and thinking changes that may occur before the start of major clinical symptoms of Alzheimer's disease (AD). Specifically, we will evaluate the feasibility of using app-based brain games to assess cognitive function in short bursts over several days using a smartphone. We will also compare this approach against other digital and paper-and-pencil tests to determine their relative accuracy for distinguishing cognitive functioning in normal aging and early AD.
This study aims to help establish improved strategies for the early detection and monitoring of cognitive changes in AD. The availability of more accurate, scientifically validated cognitive measures could facilitate treatment research and streamline clinical screening efforts.
Cognitively normal older adults (ages 60 to 80) who are enrolled in the Butler AD Prevention Registry may be eligible for this study. If you are interested in learning more about the DigiCog AD study, please call (401) 455-6402 or send an e-mail to memory@butler.org. Ask about the "DigiCog Study."
