The outpatient Universal Treatment Program (UTP) provides outpatient care for people seeking psychiatric evaluations and ongoing medication management and/or psychotherapy. Treatment is provided by licensed medical doctors who are completing an advanced Residency Training Program through the Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University under the direct supervision of experienced attending psychiatrists. The UTP is designed to serve people who are uninsured, are eligible for state insurance plans such as Medicaid or Neighborhood Health or who have high-deductible commercial insurance plans which can make treatment difficult to access.

What services does the UTP Provide?

The UTP provides comprehensive psychiatric evaluations, medication management and, on a more limited basis, psychotherapy. The purpose of medication management is to prescribe medications to effectively treat psychiatric conditions, such as depression or anxiety, and ensure your medications and dosages work effectively to help you manage your illness. Psychotherapy can help in a variety of ways including the development of skills and strategies to improve and manage symptoms, learning to approach situations differently or in more effective ways, challenging distorted beliefs and intrusive thoughts and working through fears and phobias.

You will meet with a resident who will conduct a comprehensive evaluation. The resident will also meet with you at each of your medication management visits.
