The Senior Treatment Unit provides care and support for adults ages 65 and over who have a variety of psychiatric conditions. These conditions include memory disorders, such as Alzheimer’s disease, depression, anxiety and other cognitive disorders that may cause behavioral difficulties. Treatment is provided in a safe and caring environment.

Meeting the Needs of Patients

Geriatric care at Butler carefully considers the effects of any physical problems, personal loss, emotional disorders, addictions, or neurological issues affecting the older patient. Staff in the Senior Treatment Unit at Butler offer a comprehensive approach to treating seniors. The unit was designed with a special focus on the safety of our senior patients and offers a warm, welcoming environment, including a naturally sun-lit dining room, a soothing mural, a salt water fish tank, and spacious, fully accessible patient rooms.

A Typical Day Includes:
  • Breakfast, lunch and dinner
  • Personal care, vital signs, lab work (if indicated)
  • Meet with your doctor
  • Community meetings
  • OT task group, focus group, or baking activity
  • Visiting hours
  • Therapeutic group
  • Movie in TV area; activities on patio, weather permitting; free time
  • End-of-day meeting
During Your Stay

Treatment programs and activities take place daily on the unit and include a multi-dimensional approach to wellness by combining individual treatment, group therapies and medications. Daily therapeutic groups and activities include sensorimotor groups, occupational therapy groups, community meetings, spiritual care and pet assisted therapy.

Family Involvement

Your family's involvement, and others who play a significant role in your life, is encouraged. They can be very important to the success of your treatment. Signed consent is needed in order to speak with your family regarding your private situation and health information.

Visits by Clergy

Butler Hospital's chaplain is available to meet with you and your family members and can be reached at (401) 455-6483. Clergy from outside of the hospital may visit their parishioners any time during the day or evening.
