Isaac Ray Library
The Isaac Ray Library at Butler Hospital maintains an up-to-date collection of print and electronic resources and provides services in support of the hospital's clinical, research and educational programs.
The library also serves the community-at-large by assisting patients and their families when they need reliable health information.
Over 3000 titles can be checked out by any Butler staff or requested by any HELIN Library card holder. Generally 28-day checkout with one 28-day renewal. Borrowers are billed $100 per item not returned.

Isaac Ray Collection
Butler’s Historical Library includes the papers of Isaac Ray, MD, Butler’s first president, and a general historical collection. Isaac Ray, MD (1807-1881) served as Butler’s first president, 1845 – 1867. He was one of the thirteen original founding members of the Association of Medical Superintendents of American Institutions of the Insane, now known as the American Psychiatric Association.
