Mary Marran, MS, OT, MBA,
President and Chief Operating Officer
Mary began her career at Butler in 1992 as a therapist in the occupational therapy department, ultimately becoming director. In 2004, she advanced to associate vice president of patient care services and clinical operations leader. During her 10 years in this role, she oversaw nursing operations, admissions, health information management and occupational therapy. For various periods during her tenure, she also served as director of partial hospital services, director of medical records, director of occupational therapy, director of care planning and integration, and director of informatics (a role she currently still holds that will be reassigned). In 2011, Mary took on the responsibility of system privacy officer and developed CNE’s Health System Privacy Committee to standardize investigations of privacy incidents across the system.
For the past four years, as vice president for operations and business development and as a member of Butler’s executive management and CNE’s senior management, Mary has collaborated on system-wide integration of behavioral health and strategic planning for the system and the Hospital. In her new role as interim president and chief operations officer, Mary will continue to oversee most of the departments and service areas of her current role, with added oversight of executive leadership.
James K. Sullivan, MD, PhD
Senior Vice President and Chief Medical Officer, Chief of Psychiatry, Care New England
James K. Sullivan, MD, PhD, is the Senior Vice President and Chief Medical Officer of Butler Hospital as well as the Chief of Psychiatry at Women & Infants Hospital. Previously serving as Deputy Medical Director for Clinical Services, Dr. Sullivan joined Butler in 2007 as Assistant Unit Chief on the Kent Unit.
A Clinical Associate Professor of Psychiatry at the Alpert Medical School of Brown University, Dr. Sullivan received his PhD in biology from Wesleyan University and his medical degree from the University of Connecticut School of Medicine. He completed his internship in medicine at Hartford Hospital and his residency in psychiatry at The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University, where he was a chief resident.
Dr. Sullivan is a past recipient of the Prattle Excellence in Teaching Award from Brown University and the National Alliance on Mental Illness Exemplary Psychiatrist Award. A past president of Butler Hospital’s Medical Staff Association, Dr. Sullivan was awarded the Robert J. Westlake Award for Physician Excellence in 2013. Dr. Sullivan also recieved the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) Exemplary Psychiatrist Award in 2017.
